Instagram - May be before now you might have been wondering what Instagram is all about or you have heard your friends and colleagues talk about it but you are yet to be part of the excitement that Instagram gives.

 However, we are about to launch you into that world of mind blowing photo and video sharing
in a few moments from now but before we take you through the steps it would be wise we give you an overview of what Instagram is all about.

According to the Wikipedia, Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app, as well as through a variety of other social networking platforms,
such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. Originally, a distinctive feature was that it confined photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid SX-70 images, in contrast to the 4:3 aspect ratio typically used by mobile device cameras. In August 2015, version 7.5 was released, allowing users to post photos captured in any aspect ratio. Users can also apply digital filters to their images. The maximum duration for Instagram videos is 15 seconds.

Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app. The service rapidly gained popularity, with over 100 million active users as of April 2012 and over 300 million as of December 2014. Instagram is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play.Support for the app is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android handsets, while third-party Instagram apps are available for BlackBerry 10 and Nokia-Symbian Devices.

The service was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock. In 2013, Instagram grew by 23%, while Facebook, as the parent company, only grew by 3%, this is not as if it is the first social media that had the features it had but what really made Instagram stand out was that it was really easy to use, and provided real value to photographers and photo lovers. They were not only able to pick features that would be most used, but more importantly resisted from adding unnecessary features (No timeline, no “related pictures”, no categorization, no “tag friends”  and so on…) .

The registration process are simple and straight forward. Instagram has two processes; the first is for those signing up with computer, while the second is for those using mobile devices
FIRST PROCESS, FOR THOSE USING COMPUTER FOR INSTAGRAM SIGN UP:

• Go to www.instagram.com on your web browser
• Enter your email address and create a username and password. Click on Sign Up.
• Or better still click Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.
• After that your free Instagram account has been created you can now start start sharing your picture without bounds.   

SECOND PROCESS, FOR THOSE USING MOBILE DEVICES FOR SIGN UP:

• Download the Instagram app for iOS from the App Store, Android from Google Play Store or Windows Phone from the Windows Phone Store.
• Once the app is installed, tap to open it.
• Tap Sign Up, then enter your email address and tap Next. 
• Create a username and password, fill out your profile info and then tap Done
• Or you can tap Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.
• Attend to the prompts that will appear and your Instagram account is ready to be used.
