NLC Disobeys Courts Order, Embarks On A Strike

NLC Disobeys Courts Order, Embarks On A Strike - Due to the change of the price of petrol as a result of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) and Trade Union Congress will embark on strike from Wednesday 18th of May, 2016.

This line of action taken by the NLC and TUC is in disobedience with the National Industrial Court order which restrained them from embarking on an industrial action. In consequence Organised Labour and its civil society allies, who were not comfortable with the government decision on the price of petrol and resolved that they will go on an indefinite strike to make the government reconsider it decisions.

According to the information we gathered from Vanguard, the two labour bodies were infuriated by the court's injunction restricting them fro embarking on strike.

Meanwhile, a faction of the NLC led by the General Secretary Joe Ajaero, has stated clearly that it is not part of the strike.

As at the time of this report the NLC and TUC have not reiterated their resolve to go on strke today.

We would keep updating you about the strike.

Thank you!
